This litter has been a long time in the making. For many years, Julia Downs & I were telephone breeder friends. We would discuss what was going on with our dogs, what we wanted to see happen and life in general. One of the things Julia wanted to see happen was the potential cross between her Quigley's lines and my Dillon's lines. Sadly, Julia passed away a couple of years, but her dream is finally happening with the mating of Marigold (linebred on Dillon) & Maggie Boreland's Quigley (son of Quigley).

Folks have asked me about what color puppies might result from this pairing and basically the answer is, most any combination. Not quite all the possibilities, but many of them could happen. Marigold, like her sire Dillon, carries the dominant black gene, however, it does not "cover" her other coat colors. We have tested Marigold to see what she does carry in the way of coat color genes so we know for certain that she does not carry the sable gene. Instead of having a seal coat like Dillon, she is a ghost tri. Look at the pictures on her page & you will see the tan shining through on her legs! Because Quigley has a sable coat, then there is always the possibility of having seal coats on some of the pups. They could also produce sable and white, black and white, black and tan, tricolor as well as clear sable & white pups. It could be a virtual rainbow of colors.

There is a fairly extensive write up and many, many pictures of Marigold here.

From Maggie Boreland: Chisum (Quigley Jr.) is the excellent example of an English Shepherd - a handsome and well balanced shaded sable who is 6 years old. Intelligent and athletic (fast runner and strong swimmer) with strong natural herding ability, he is fearless and self-assured with all types of livestock, calm with other dogs, and all around lover of the family. He settles well at night but remains ready to spring into action. An ideal farm dog and family pet.

Below are some picture of Marigold & Quigley taken by Marigold's owner, back in July. The single pictures of Quigley were provided by his owner.
