Taylor – Litter T

Taylor
Taylorsville, NC
Located in the foothills of the NC mountains

Taylor weighed in at 14 ounces. She sports a white patch on her rear (similar to her grandfather Dillon's half brother Shane). We will have to wait and see if the patch continues to be there once she is grown. She also has a "dot" in her blaze, on the top of her head. She was born with double rear dewclaws, which have been removed.

Taylor will be keeping her name and is heading off to Minnesota Saturday morning with her new family. She has some big shoes to fill since they recently lost their older dog, but I feel sure that Taylor will rise to the challenge of learning the ropes at her new home. Her final night here with us has been spent with some one on one time with big sister Roper, plus all of us. It's going to feel very empty here on Saturday night!

Taylor had a great trip back over to Jan's house. I always find it amazing to see how quickly puppies acclimate themselves to "doing" something like the A-frame. There was never a question in her mind - right up & over it she went, with very little encouragement. We also tried the small dogwalk while we were there, but she really didn't have a good concept of where her back feet were in relation to the plank. I kept a hand underneath her the whole way across. 😉 She was quite a charmer as well with our company at the house.

Taylor has had a lot of fun this week, from playing with her big sister Roper, to meeting new people and trying new things. We have accomplished the task of having the puppies exit the pen (inside the house), follow me across the room to the front door and exit through the front door on their own. Both girls are doing very well at the task of getting outside the door and down into the grass before taking a bathroom break. Coming back inside, they are also maneuvering the door to the house. Sometimes that can be a scary thing, but they have handled it quite nicely. Taylor tends to do things with gusto, so when she follows me back into the inside pen, she almost throws herself over the pen gate. 😉

Taylor is also still filled with puppy kisses (otherwise known as licking!) and is quite a cuddle bug when being held. We also found out while we were at Jan's house, that Taylor is very food motivated!

Taylor has continued to lead in new tasks presented to the pups. I have been working on getting them to understand that a sit will earn attention, whereas jumping up on me or the fence will not. While it is not a completely understood task yet, Taylor was the first to show that she is getting the concept of it. As you can see, at 5 weeks, Taylor is already digging for moles (no moles were caught). There are a few mole runs in the area where the temporary fence is set up. I was most surprised to see the gusto in which she proceeded with that task!

Taylor has been the first puppy in so many of the situations I have exposed them to over the past couple of weeks. She was the first to wag her tail in greeting, the first to start licking, the first to try to escape the puppy pen, and well, I think you get the picture. However, whatever Taylor does, Tega is not far behind. So in our outside jaunts, Taylor has been quick to explore the new world and new experiences. It's always fun to see puppies process new information. She is a lovely pup!
